Student life is one of the most memorable stages in life. This stage is full of important turning points that we won't realize until it's over.
A student will never realize that their life is the most wonderful thing they have ever experienced. By the time they realize it, he/she will have passed this age, as a life example shows. Each and every one has experienced this.
It’s always greener to the other side.
We’ve all been there.
When we were in school we wanted to go to college, when we were in college we wanted to work and earn money. And when we reached the working phase, we realized that our student days had been much better.
The student life is a golden opportunity to accomplish a great deal.
In this article, when we talk about a “student”, we mean the following:
Students can be classified into different types
- Kindergarten students
- Students in primary school
- Students in high school
- Students from the Middle Class
- College Students
In this article, we will discuss the pros and cons that come with being a student.
Nobody, but the student, is going to argue about why the life of a student is the best! Irony is a part of life.
Let’s discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of being a student.
The Benefits of Being a Student
The student’s life is the best part of your life. Here’s why
Students Make Friends
Friends are our family, but without the blood relationship. The friendships of students are the main reason for a colourful and enjoyable life. We make friends in school because we share common interests. Students who enjoy playing cricket, for example, can quickly become friends. Students life is the perfect platform to meet like-minded individuals. In school, friends help each other understand class activities and homework.
We make our own decisions during our college years, without our parents’ involvement or influence. Many students live in hostels and are therefore away from their families. The bond between students is strengthened by studying together, staying together and nurturing interests together.
Students can network with other students
Students who are in school or university have the chance to network. When they are older, meeting new students, building connections and forming relationships will be helpful. Students at universities need to network in order to discover job and career opportunities. People with similar interests will cross paths because they are all members of the same organisation. Students can take advantage of networking.
Experience practical learning through clubs and activities
By joining a student club or organization that is based on their area of study, they will gain practical experience in the field. Being a part of clubs and student activities is a great way to learn leadership skills, 10 skills, team spirit, and develop new relationships.
Communication skills can be taught to students
A student’s relationship skills will improve as they progress through the phases. Communication is key in any relationship, personal or professional.
Students can improve their communication skills through debates, speeches, discussions in groups, and other activities. Communication skills, both written and spoken, are important for students to learn.
Students can learn digital fluency
Students in college and schools are familiar with the digital world. Students are exposed to various software, different platforms and online courses.
Candidates who have a tech-savvy bent of mind and are familiar with digital technology are sought after by companies. The tools students are taught in school can help them get a job.
Let’s be honest, technology is the way of the future.
Students receive a good education
It is for this reason that children are sent to school and college. It is a good age to start learning and getting educated. A good education is essential for students not only to have a successful career and to land a well-paying job, but also to be a better person.
Teachers, parents, and other stakeholders must ensure that students receive a high-quality education at their institution. A well-educated student is the future of a country.
Let’s talk about the downside of attending school and college.
The disadvantages of being a college student
It is only because we have forgotten our own schooldays that older people can be so naive.
We all remember that not everything went smoothly for us when we were students, did it?
What are the problems students face?
Bullying in schools
Bullying is an aggressive behavior that occurs when a person intentionally causes discomfort to another individual on multiple occasions.
Bullying can affect students at any age, from very young children to university-age students. However, it is most common among school-aged kids. Bullying can affect a student’s mental health, regardless of their age. Bullies in student life are not just about the victims. They can exhibit harmful behavior as they age. Bullying will have a negative impact on both parties.
Bullying has a cascading effect on students. This is especially true when they are gullible. Both parents and school officials should be aware of this situation in order to help children recover from the trauma of bullying. Bullying can happen to any student, regardless of their background. We should encourage them to stand up for themselves and to fight back against bullies.
Students cannot pursue their dreams
Parents dream of their children having a successful career. Most parents choose an accountant, doctor, or engineer. A profession with less risk and greater financial stability is a popular choice to this.
From their early childhood, they will be taught to follow a certain career path. It would be hard to convince a child to follow their dream career if it was the parents’. Some children may want to pursue their dreams, even if they are not financially stable or low-risk. For example, sports or the arts. It will be difficult for students to overcome the obstacles to achieve their goals.
Students face exam stress
Every student can identify with this disadvantage. This phase of nervousness and anxiety is often discussed in universities and schools. Teachers can help students overcome this phase with the aid of a wise education system and good advice. The support of elders will go a long way to improve the scores and interest level in a subject.
The curriculum should be designed in a way that eliminates the concept of exam pressure. Finland’s education system has done away with exams. Every school in India needs to adopt the innovative techniques that universities around the world use.
Discrimination faced by students
Discrimination against students can be caused by a variety of sources. Teachers, students, campus authorities, or anyone else can discriminate against a student because of their race, gender, or nationality. It can have a negative impact on the child.
It will happen that the subject of gender comes up. Some people do believe in gender, but others don’t. It doesn’t matter what a person believes, we should all be able to talk about it and understand it.
In addition to gender, the discussion of equality will include gender. All men and women, as well as boys and girls, must be treated equally. In most cases, the values that children learn at home are also replicated in class. Before they can enter the classroom, these stereotypes need to be broken at home.
Learning how to study can be difficult
Not everyone is able to study well.
If you are an adult, a college graduate or a parent who has already completed their education, remember the last time you were taught how to study. It seems that we all just studied, but at some point, we learned how to do it effectively. Most of us wouldn’t know what to highlight, or how to study for an exam without a teacher explaining it to us. When you learn how to study effectively, it is a valuable skill.
Teachers and parents share the responsibility for ensuring that students don’t encounter this type of situation.
Students do comparison
Humans are prone to compare themselves with others. How can we expect children to not compare themselves to each other when adults do?
It is important to make a comparison that is fair and balanced. This is true for academics, extracurricular activities, or sports.
